Portland, Oregon, Safeway surcharge settlement payments
Top Class Actions readers report receiving payments from an $8.75 million settlement resolving claims that Safeway charged illegal surcharges on non-grocery items at its Portland, Oregon, locations. The settlement accepted claims from consumers who purchased certain non-grocery items at a Safeway store in Portland and were charged a surcharge. Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claimed Safeway violated local laws by charging an unlawful clean energy surcharge on non-grocery purchases. The city enacted the surcharge in 2019 and ordered retailers of a certain size to pay a 1% surcharge on their revenue. Safeway hasn’t admitted wrongdoing but agreed to pay $8.75 million to resolve the class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the settlement, Safeway shoppers could receive a maximum of $200. Our readers reportedly received payments of $200 from this surcharge settlement. In order to receive settlement payments, consumers had to submit a valid claim form by July 1, 2023.
Wipe Out! false advertising class action rebates
Top Class Actions readers have started to receive checks from a false advertising class action lawsuit settlement that resolved claims that Wipe Out! wipes were not approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. The settlement benefits consumers who purchased Wipe Out! Wipes, Wipe Out! Multi-Surface Wipes, or Wipe Out! Multi-Surface Decontaminant Spray in the United States on or before April 19, 2023. According to the false advertising class action lawsuit, Tzumi Innovations deceived consumers into thinking that its wipes had been approved by the EPA and found to be safe. In reality, these wipes were not even submitted to the EPA for registration, the plaintiffs allege. Tzumi hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the claims. Under the terms of the settlement, claimants could receive up to $15 with proof of purchase or up to $6 without proof of purchase. Top Class Actions readers reportedly received checks and electronic payments of $4.43 from this settlement. The deadline to submit a claim with the settlement was July 18, 2023.
Wesson Oil false advertising settlement payments
Top Class Actions readers have reportedly begun to receive payments from a $3 million false advertising class action settlement with Wesson. The settlement provided payments to consumers who purchased Wesson oil products in certain states between Jan. 12, 2006, and July 1, 2017. According to the plaintiffs, ConAgra Foods misrepresented its Wesson Oil products as “natural” despite containing genetically modified ingredients (GMOs). Consumers say they wouldn’t have purchased the oils or paid as much if they had known they weren’t actually natural. ConAgra agreed to pay $3 million to resolve the false advertising class action lawsuit. Claimants could receive cash payments based on the number of products they purchased. Our readers received payments of up to $20.80 from this false advertising settlement.
